Barrels are used in extrusion and injection molding in many variations and sizes. Helix specializes in the manufacturing and realising of grooves in barrels. By realising the grooves in a barrel – in contrast to using a grooved bush – one component and thus one weld can be dispensed with.
Grooved barrels are used extensively in the plastification units of extruders and injection moulding machines. For many years, HELIX has specialised in the manufacturing of grooved barrels. With its unique technology for producing grooves, HELIX has become the universal supplier of all kinds of grooved barrels.
Available barrel variants are:
- Axially grooved barrels – with grooves running along the axis of the barrel
- Helically grooved barrels – with grooves running helically within the barrel
- smooth barrel
Shape of the groove
The shape of the groove is usually determined by our experts, but it can also be customized.
Grooves manufactured as:
- square grooves
- trapeze grooves
- sickle grooves
- round grooves or
- any special shapes according to customer requirements
The standard material used for grooved barrels is nitrided steel that is nitrided with gas or plasma. In addition, HELIX also provides the possibility of manufacturing wear protected grooved barrels made of
- full-hardened tooling steel
- bimetallic plated material
- HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) material
Helix manufactures barrels up to a length of 5500mm . However, grooves in the barrel can even be realised up to a length of 7000mm. Helix supplies barrels complete with cooling or tempering jacket, tested and ready for installation. Tool flange and gear flange are individually adaptable to customer requirements.
