Interesting Information about the Company
On the market for nearly 50 years
HELIX GmbH was established in 1964 under the name of Schäfer+Weinbrenner by Walter Weinbrenner and Eberhard Schäfer in Waiblingen-Hegnach, Germany. Since 1977 it is a private limited company. From the beginning, the main focus was on screws for extruders, cylinders and augers. Another area of business was the manufacturing of special purpose machines.
At the beginning of the 1990s the company founders passed the business on to their sons, Armin Weinbrenner and Klaus Schäfer. In 1993 the company concentrated on the areas of screws, cylinders, grooved barrels and augers. In 1996 a subsidiary was established in Polkowice, Lower Silesia which today is called PROMAX sp.z o.o. This subsidiary has recently been incorporated as an extended contractor for HELIX manufacturing processes.
The main advance in development is currently made with the manufacturing of helical grooves in grooved barrels, cylinders with grooves and the corresponding complicated barrier screws. HELIX GmbH recognised this trend and in 2000 developed and built a manufacturing machine that enables HELIX to produce grooves in dimensions and to a degree of quality, that no other competitor has yet attained.
Schäfer+Weinbrenner GmbH was renamed to HELIX GmbH in 2005 after Klaus Schäfer left the company. Since then Armin Weinbrenner (a graduate engineer), is the managing director, overseeing a staff of about 30 employees.
The parent company is located in Waiblingen-Hegnach, easily reachable just east of the federal capital city of Stuttgart. Since 2000, the subsidiary PROMAX is located in a newly constructed and modern building in Polkowice, Lower Silesia. Both locations have state-of-the-art CNC lathes, CNC milling machines and a variety of metal tooling machines. A modern computer-aided production control station organises all operations between the two locations and the company own truck shuttles between Polkowice and Waiblingen.
